Istanbul ’74 collaborates with Marlborough Gallery in hosting New Yorker duo Jonah Freeman and Justin Lowe, who began working together by creating a collage one summer. Inspired by the large-scale installations they created separately, they started creating New York-themed works that allude to drug culture, psychedelia, architecture and film. The result is giant-sized multi-room installation called ‘Hello Meth Lab in the Sun’, a meth lab attached to a happy kitchen. The duo’s recent exhibition in New York’s Marlborough Chelsea, ‘Stray Light Grey’, was much talked about. They created several works exclusively for the Istanbul exhibition by incorporating mirrors in to the process, as well as others that hold an important place in artistic practices. One of this month’s can’t-miss exhibitions.
