Time Out says

Dutch photographer Jasper de Beijer is a legendary figure who uses scale models and stage designs in his photographs, setting up every detail of a photograph in his own studio – a true get for collectors. His second solo at The Empire Project, ‘Marabunta’, is also the name of a series inspired by the drug war in Mexico. Affected by the cartel wars that cause the much reported murders and injuries as well as by the bodies left in the centre of the city – with their heads cut off, covered in warning signs – Beijer studies the swanky lives of gang leaders and the death of victims with unique visuality. The colours, mystical elements and frighteningly realistic details make for works that are both mesmerising and unnerving.
