Gigology is the electronic branch of B Yüzü, the booking collective that’s previously brought acts like Maybeshewill and Blackbird Blackbird to Istanbul. This month, they’re hosting a dance music weekend at Babylon and Babylon Lounge.
The party kicks off on Thursday at Babylon Lounge with Erva, who opened for Shigeto a couple of months ago with sets of glitch and house. Next up is a nu-disco, deep-house set from Serkan Soğut, aka DSKNNCT. The real highlight of the night is Gigamesh, who recently released an EP from Kitsuné titled ‘All My Life’. We know him for remixes he’s prepared for tracks by the likes of Radiohead, Télépopmusik, Two Door Cinema Club and New Order. This is his first set in Istanbul, and we’re expecting to learn a new thing or two about nu-disco and disco.
On Friday, there’s a performance by Tiger & Woods that you’d be a fool to miss. Since the release of their epic debut album ‘Through the Green’ in 2011, it’s been impossible to resist the draw of this Italian duo. Be sure to familiarise yourself by listening to ‘Gin Tonic’ from ‘Through the Green’, undoubtedly one of the best dance albums of the past year. The night’s bonus performers are Style-ist, a DJ with many years of experience; Büber, who’s been making appearances at a variety of clubs around the city with sets of nu-disco and deep house; and Surrender!, a local act with a bright future in electronic music who recently released a debut album in Japan that’ll be making an appearance in Europe soon.
Deep Shit’s Saturday night performance is the weekend’s second biggest draw. Deep Shit is the DJ project of Edwin Congreave and Jack Savidge, members of Foals and Friendly Fires, two of the most recognisable names in indie music. Though they often worry about disappointing their fans who expect exclusively indie music, it’s doubtless that just as many people love it when they play disco, nu-disco and house. Taking on DJ duties that same night are Yesh! Me Lady and Club Bangkok.
