Travelling between South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo has become more convenient, with Air Congo launching new flights linking Johannesburg and key Congolese cities.

The airline, which began operations in December 2024, recently announced that travellers can now book flights between Johannesburg and Kinshasa, with a stopover in Lubumbashi. Air Congo will operate flights three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Departures from Kinshasa are scheduled for 09:00, arriving at O.R. Tambo International Airport at 16:20, with a stop in Lubumbashi en route. For travellers departing from Johannesburg, flights leave at 17:30 and arrive in Kinshasa at 22:50.

This new route is expected to benefit both business and leisure travellers, particularly given the strong ties between Johannesburg and the Congolese community. Many Congolese nationals reside in Johannesburg, creating steady demand for travel between the two destinations.

Johannesburg also remains one of Africa’s most popular travel hubs, attracting visitors from across the continent due to its economic opportunities and vibrant urban lifestyle. The addition of Air Congo further strengthens connectivity and provides travellers with more options.

Although still a relatively new player in the aviation industry, Air Congo has been expanding its footprint. Its existing network includes destinations such as Goma, Lubumbashi and Kisangani, connecting passengers to some of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s major cities.

The airline aims to offer safe, reliable and customer-focused services, positioning itself as a preferred carrier in the region.

O.R. Tambo International Airport, on the other hand, continues to stand out as one of the busiest and most well-regarded airports in Africa, reinforcing Johannesburg’s status as a key gateway to the continent.

Over the weekend, the airline took to social media to let passengers know that flights are now available between the two popular destinations.
