The 2025 MANCOSA Jacaranda FM Business Breakfast was held on Wednesday, October 01, at the Vodacom Dome in Midrand, Johannesburg — the financial and economic hub of sub-Saharan Africa.
The prestigious event brought together hundreds of industry leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, and students, all united by a common goal: to share insights that forge lasting success.
The audience was treated to insights from renowned speakers Prof. Mamokgethi Phakeng, Grace Harding, Graeme Codrington, Jessica Motaung, and Pat Lambie. MCs Xola Ntshinga and Martin Bester kept the energy high while guests were entertained with great music from Lloyiso.
This year’s theme, “Own Your Legacy”, inspired discussions on leadership, innovation, adaptability, and preparing for the future.
Celebrating impact in the city
MANCOSA and Jacaranda FM have long been committed to community upliftment projects.
The Principal of MANCOSA, Professor Magnate Ntombela, highlighted the powerful legacy the institution has been building over the past three decades.
“When an institution turns 30, the pivotal question is: what is your legacy? And that question resonates deeply with our theme today — own your legacy. MANCOSA is a 30-year-old private higher education institution founded on social justice concerns around access to quality higher education,” said Prof. Ntombela.
He shone the spotlight on the MANCOSA Million Books Project, launched in 2018 through the Karodia Foundation. The project aims to distribute one million books to communities across South Africa.
“This project was built on a simple but powerful belief: difficulty is the foundation of opportunity. To date, we’ve donated over 105,900 books across 353 mobile libraries in hundreds of schools,” he explained.
“This is not just about distributing books — it’s about planting libraries, cultivating imagination, and writing new stories of hope. As part of our 30-year celebrations, on International Literacy Day, 8 September, we marked a milestone by handing over 30 mobile libraries to 10 schools across Devon, Cape Town, and Johannesburg — 900 books in total,” he added proudly.
Reflecting on the theme of legacy, Prof. Ntombela concluded:
“We believe our legacy is not measured in buildings or balance sheets, but in lives touched, futures changed, and opportunities created. The benefits of these donations will continue to unfold as we monitor the progress of these schools.”
The professor thanked Jacaranda FM for partnering with it in delivering a mobile library at Halfway House Primary School in Midrand. The radio station hosted a live outdoor broadcast at the school on September 08.
“It was more than just an event. It was a celebration of hope and possibility. And it is only right to acknowledge all the partners who make this kind of work possible,” he said.
Prof. Ntombela closed with a call to action: “This business breakfast with Jacaranda FM is not just about coffee and conversations. It’s about commitment — a commitment to making our country better, through partnerships that align values, amplify voices, and drive transformation.”
Jacaranda FM on legacy
Jacaranda FM’s Managing Director, Vuyani Dombo, also reflected on the station’s ongoing commitment to community upliftment through initiatives like Good Morning Angels (GMA).
“In all our businesses, organisations, and careers, we are leaving a legacy — whether we are aware of it or not. We touch and impact people everywhere we go. But what makes a legacy truly impactful is purpose and intentionality,” he said.
“We serve over 1.3-million people daily across four provinces on FM. We also connect with over a million people online — through our website, app, and social media. Beyond that, we connect with listeners through events and experiences like this one, and we contribute to community building.”
He proudly noted that Good Morning Angels has donated R120-million in the past 20 years to people around the communities they serve.
“But it’s not about the Rand figure. It’s about the impact we’ve had on countless lives. At Jacaranda FM, our legacy is about laughing together, crying together, dancing together, and creating memories with our audience. That is our proud legacy.”
The 2025 MANCOSA Jacaranda FM Business Breakfast was more than just an event — it was an empowering session with insights that will leave a lasting impact.
