Joburgers urged to stay home amid ongoing flight disruptions to Dubai and the Middle East from South Africa.

For Joburgers, Dubai is more than just a holiday spot for gold souks and skyscrapers; it’s our most vital connection to the globe. Whether you're heading to Europe, Asia, or the Americas, chances are your journey starts with an 8-hour overnight haul to Dubai International.
But as of March 1, 2026, that "super-hub" link has been severed. Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has confirmed major disruptions following the closure of the UAE airspace, with O.R. Tambo at the centre of the storm.

"Travellers are strongly advised not to proceed to airport precincts until they have confirmed their flight status directly with their respective airlines," ACSA stated in their official alert.
