Discover how art flourishes in the secret gardens of Mountain View as RMB Latitudes celebrates 140 years of Joburg with an immersive Nigerian spotlight.

In typical Joburg fashion, just as the first bite of autumn air arrives, the city prepares to bloom. The RMB Latitudes Art Fair is officially returning to the enchanted, winding pathways of Shepstone Gardens from 22–24 May 2026.
Now in its fourth year, the fair has carved out a reputation as the anti-convention centre art event. Forget the sterile white booths and fluorescent lighting of traditional fairs; this is art experienced through marble halls, secret rooftop pavilions, and lush terraced gardens.
This year’s theme, Oasis, is a poetic nod to Johannesburg’s 140th anniversary. It’s a reflection on how a city built without a major water source became a powerhouse of creativity, proving that, like water in a desert, art finds a way to flourish in the most improbable places.
"The fair embraces Johannesburg’s spirit of resilience and renewal," says Denzo Nyathi, Curator and Head of Sales. "It also draws inspiration from the gardens that host the fair each year, a carefully tended pocket of green within an urban context."
Following the massive success of the Botswana Focus in 2025 (which sold out), the 2026 international focus shifts to Nigeria.
In a collaboration with Lagos-based Yenwa Gallery, the fair will bring the heat of West Africa’s creative explosion to Joburg. The program isn't just a weekend showcase; it’s the culmination of a year-long exchange, with a curated exhibition debuting in Lagos before travelling to South Africa.
RMB Latitudes isn't just for serious collectors; it’s for anyone who loves the walkable side of Joburg. Here’s what to expect:
