Earlier this year, Gautrain announced R1 per day parking promotion for its users.

Passengers traveling by Gautrain could park their car at any of the railway stations, for R1 a day for up to ten days.

The special started on 1 April 2025 and was meant to run until 31 July. It has now been extended to 31 October. The normal parking rate ranges from free for 0-15 minutes to R134 a day, making this a real bargain for those who use the high-speed rail service regularly.

However, the special is valid only if you park at a Gautrain station and then complete a return train journey. More terms and conditions are listed here

Gautrain currently operates in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Ekurhuleni. The rail service was introduced in 2012, as one of the solutions of the on-going traffic challenge between the major cities.

It also serves as a convenient alternative to the public transport in Gauteng.

The main stations are Johannesburg Park Station, OR Tambo International Airport, and Pretoria Station. Other stations are CenturionHatfield, Marlboro, Midrand, Rhodesfield, Rosebank, and Sandton.

Gautrain has announced plans to expand to other areas within the province.

“The days of a predictable 9-to-5, Monday through Friday commute are over. Passengers are demanding that we run a frequent service throughout the day and offer dynamic pricing to suit their hybrid work schedules. And with the rising cost of living, cost is increasingly becoming the sole determinant when choosing a mode of transport,” said Gautrain Management Agency CEO, Tshepo Kgobe.

“The rapid rail extensions from current Gautrain stations, mostly in the suburbs, to other economic nodes and townships like Soweto and Mamelodi, will significantly increase our customer base, boost ridership, and enable inclusive transport connectivity,” added Kgobe.
