If you have ever visited Gold Reef City in Johannesburg, you will know that there is one ride you simply cannot leave the amusement park without trying, the legendary Anaconda.
The high-speed thrill ride is designed for adrenaline-seekers who are willing to step far outside their comfort zones. With sharp twists, dramatic drops and intense speed, the ride quite literally gets hearts racing, making it one of the most talked-about attractions at the park.
Over the past few weeks, however, visitors were unable to experience the iconic ride as Gold Reef City temporarily closed it for refurbishment. The amusement park undertook major renovations to ensure the attraction remains safe, smooth, and even more thrilling.
In January, Gold Reef City took to social media to update fans on the progress, sharing short clips showing technicians hard at work on the massive structure. Then, on 23 January, another video revealed that testing was officially underway.
The wait is finally over. The Anaconda officially reopened on 30 January, meaning visitors can once again head to the park to experience the heart-pounding ride.
" After a R24 million+ revamp, the Anaconda opened today - and the excitement was real," announced Gold Reef City on Friday.
The good news is that the revamp did not affect the ticket price. Entry to Gold Reef City ranges from R295 per person, with online bookings. Children under three can enter for free, making it a budget-friendly option for families looking for an exciting day out.

Gold Reef City offers far more than just the Anaconda. The park boasts more than 14 major thrill rides, nine family-friendly attractions, and a wide variety of entertainment options. Visitors can explore restaurants, retail stores and dining venues, while younger children can enjoy trampolines.
One of the park’s unique experiences also includes an underground mine tour, where guests can learn about Johannesburg’s gold-mining history.
So, if you are looking for something fun to do this weekend or in the coming days, Gold Reef City is well worth a visit.
Just be warned, while there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy, the Anaconda is strictly for those brave enough to take on the adventure.
