Congratulations are in order for Hubo Studio, based in Noordwyk, Midrand, as the innovative architectural firm continues to make waves both locally and internationally.

The studio recently received prestigious recognition at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) - one of the most respected global platforms celebrating architectural excellence. Hubo Studio was nominated for two awards at this year’s festival and proudly walked away with the accolade for Best Use of Natural Light, awarded for its outstanding design of the Redhill Early Learning Centre.

This thoughtfully crafted centre was designed and delivered by Hubo Studio in close collaboration with the children, teachers, and leadership team at Redhill School, including Joseph Gerassi and Sue Pilkington-Williams. The centre stands out for its warm, light-filled spaces that nurture curiosity, creativity, and play - principles that lie at the heart of Hubo Studio’s design philosophy.

A remarkable year of achievements

The WAF recognition is just one of several milestones Hubo Studio has celebrated this year.

Founder Asher Marcus was honoured with the National Arts & Culture Award (NACA) for Architecture, acknowledging his influential work and dedication to education-focused design across South Africa. His commitment to creating environments that support learning, safety, and childhood development has continued to set new benchmarks in the field.

The success story doesn’t end there. Hubo Studio’s design for the Redhill Early Learning Centre was also named Educational Build of the Year at the SCAPE Awards, further cementing its status as a standout project in educational architecture. In addition, the studio earned a High Commendation for Architecture Firm of the Year, highlighting its growing footprint as a leader in innovative, human-centred design.

With multiple awards and national recognition under its belt, Hubo Studio is firmly establishing itself as a powerhouse in South Africa’s architectural landscape. Its commitment to sustainable, light-filled, and community-driven design continues to inspire - and the industry is taking notice.
