Showmax’s outrageous new R-rated comedy Khaki Fever drops this Friday, 5 September, and it’s set to bring plenty of chaos to your screen. Ahead of the release, Time Out caught up with actor Christopher Jaftha, who plays Daniel, a charming but desperate ranger whose risky choices drive the story.
The film follows a group of game rangers who hatch a scandalous competition: whoever hooks up with the most tourists in a season gets crowned the “King of Khaki” and pockets everyone else’s tips. The catch? They’ll need to outsmart their sharp-eyed lodge manager, Anel, who has zero tolerance for mixing business with pleasure, and anyone caught is instantly fired.
Japhta, says his character is “a bit of a wild card with a good heart”, who finds himself under pressure when his mom calls needing money fast. Desperate, he manipulates his fellow rangers into the risky bet. “The stakes couldn’t be higher,” Jaftha says. “Daniel needs that money to save his mom—so he’ll do anything to get it.”
While the film promises plenty of laughs, Jaftha insists there’s more to Khaki Fever than meets the eye. “It’s a laugh from start to finish, but what excites me most is the heart of it. There’s depth to Daniel, and that’s the reason I said yes to this role. The cast is phenomenal, and they shine in their interpretations of their characters.”

Directed by Brett Michael Innes (Sink, Fiela se Kind), Khaki Fever brings together a stellar ensemble, all working under the guidance of Safe Sets, ensuring respect, professionalism and trust on set. "Another reason for me saying yes is the fact that we had Safe Sets working with us," he explains.
"It was honestly such a joy. Brett often tells journalists how people would come to the set on their off days because the energy was so special. There was mutual respect between everyone, and Safe Sets managed the more intimate scenes with such professionalism that we all felt safe and supported and heavily padded. It was a professional set but also filled with laughter and fun."
Catch Khaki Fever on Showmax this Friday, 5 September 2025.
