TIME has just released its annual list of the World’s Greatest Places for 2026, and our very own Park Hyatt Johannesburg has snagged a coveted spot among the 100 extraordinary destinations to visit and stay.

If you’ve driven through the leafy streets of Rosebank lately, you’ll know this isn’t just another big-brand hotel. Housed in a meticulously restored 1930s colonial mansion, the 31-key boutique property is a masterclass in quiet luxury.

Why it made the cut

TIME’s international network of correspondents doesn't just look for thread counts; they look for personality. They specifically highlighted the hotel’s design, helmed by local interiors whiz Stephen Falcke, which features slick rooms outfitted with Ndebele-patterned throws, marble-topped credenzas, and those signature green tub chairs.

But for us locals, the real draw is Room 32. The hotel's signature restaurant has fast-tracked its way to becoming a Rosebank institution.

“The high tea is the showstopper here,” notes the TIME feature. “A treasure chest reveals tiny bites tucked in drawers, from bunny chow to venison carpaccio, served on a terrace overlooking a heated pool framed with greenery.”

A win for the City of Gold

The recognition is a massive nod to the city’s hospitality scene. Hamza Farooqui, CEO of Millat Group (the owners of the property), described the moment as "humbling," noting that the goal has always been to create a product that honours both global standards and local heritage.

General Manager Atef Soliman added that the inclusion inspires the team to continue "setting new benchmarks for understated luxury in the region."

Whether you’re looking for a world-class staycation or just a fancy spot to indulge in a "treasure chest" of treats, the Park Hyatt is proving that Joburg’s heritage and modern flair are a winning combination.

Time Out Tip: Don't miss the High Tea at Room 32. Make sure you book ahead, because it’s popular.
