If you’ve been avoiding the library because of overdue books, now’s your chance to return them, no questions asked. Joburg Libraries have officially waived all late return fees until 30 June 2025.
The amnesty is part of the City’s celebration of a major upgrade: the rollout of the new Symphony Library System, which promises to streamline operations and improve access for all users. With this digital revamp, you can now easily search for books, check your loans, and reserve your favourites, all from one place.
The system also helps library staff manage and track books more efficiently, improving behind-the-scenes workflow. Best of all, it gives the public easier access to over 1.5 million books and e-resources across the city’s libraries.
This milestone comes as the Joburg City Library reopens its doors and enters Phase 2 of its long-awaited restoration, after being closed for the past five years.
Joburg Libraries encourage all users to return overdue books by the deadline to take advantage of the fee waiver.
" To celebrate the arrival of our new Library System, you can return your overdue books without paying any fines until 30 June 2025. Whether it’s been a few days or a few years, just bring them back. No stress. No fees. Just reading," states the Joburg Libraries.
Holiday programs
