Spring has officially arrived in Johannesburg, and with it comes a burst of colour that’s impossible to miss. From 9 to 14 September, Made to Bloom is bringing rare and exotic Clivia flowers to the city at Hyde Park Corner.
Plant lovers, design enthusiasts, and anyone with an eye for colour and detail will be drawn to the curated collection, which will take over the mall's centre court and feature contributions from three of the country’s top Clivia collectors.
Highlights include striking interspecific hybrids, rare double Clivias in yellow and green, splashed varieties imported from Japan and China, and, for the first time ever, a new compact cultivar perfect for indoor spaces like desks, shelves, and coffee tables.
“This is a unique chance to see some of the most finely bred Clivia specimens in the world,” says Sheree McHaffie, Hyde Park Corner’s marketing spokesperson. “From mature, show-quality plants to seedlings for budding collectors, the exhibition offers something for everyone. This year is extra special with the introduction of compact hybrids designed for contemporary urban living.”
Clivias, indigenous to South Africa, have long been prized for their bold blooms and architectural foliage. Their adaptability and minimal care requirements make them ideal for both indoor and outdoor settings, and their growing popularity means this exhibition is as much about inspiration as it is about plants.
Visitors can chat with exhibitors, learn how to care for these extraordinary flowers, and even purchase select plants to take home. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just curious, Made to Bloom is a sensory celebration of form, colour, and botanical artistry, the perfect way to bring spring indoors.
