Johannesburg restaurants continue to shine, playing a pivotal role in positioning South Africa as a top global culinary destination.

Not only do the city’s restaurants showcase the rich and diverse flavours of Africa, but they also possess the qualities that make South Africa what it is—a place of Ubuntu and warmth. Many of Joburg's restaurants have excellent customer service, and are a great place to experience love and connect with other amazing individuals.

Recently, two of Joburg's restaurants were announced as winners of the 2025 Gastronomy Tourism Award, an award ceremony that 'recognise and celebrate culinary businesses, brands, services, and suppliers that promote South African gastronomy on a global scale, highlighting the country’s rich culinary tourism offerings.'

The awards ceremony took place on August 11. They were held as part of the SA Chef Conference & Expo 2025 in Sandton, Johannesburg.

Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa scooped the award in the Fine and Casual Dining category.

Earlier this week, the hotel took to social media to celebrate.

" We are honoured to announce that Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa has been awarded the prestigious SA CHEF Gastronomy Award for Best Casual and Fine Dining in South Africa. 🇿🇦✨"

The hotel was honoured for its excellent customer service.

" This recognition is a tribute to our passionate culinary team, whose artistry and dedication continue to elevate every plate into an unforgettable experience. From elegant fine dining evenings to relaxed gourmet moments, every dish tells a story — one of flavour, finesse, and Fairlawns magic."

Another Johannesburg restaurant that was honoured is the Les Creatifs. It won the Cultural Dining award. Organisers praised Chef Wandile Mabaso and his team for the incredible work they do in transforming Johannesburg into the culinary capital of Africa.

"With a vision to transform Johannesburg into the culinary capital of Africa, Chef Wandile Mabaso at Les Creatifs is not just offering cultural dining; he is spearheading a culinary revolution that elevates South Africa’s status on the global stage," said Gastronomy Tourism Awards in a statement.

"Each plate is a work of art, and the exclusive dining space in Bryanston, is a visual feast. Chef Wandile and his team are driving the Afrique Moderne gastronomy and cultural movement, redefining what local and international tourists can experience in South Africa."
