Move over, Paris. Take a backseat, Lagos. When it comes to the rhythm of the bedroom, Johannesburg is officially leading the pack.

According to new research from our Time Out Loud community, Joburgers are the most sexually active in Africa, clocking in an average of 8.1 times per month. That puts the City of Gold at the top of the continental leaderboard, comfortably beating out the likes of Lagos, Nigeria (6.5 times) and even Ankara, Turkey (6.7 times) on the global scale.

Work hard, play harder

We’ve always known that Johannesburg is a city of high energy. We’re the economic powerhouse, the city of hustle, and the home of the 24-hour lifestyle. But this new data proves that the "work hard, play hard" ethos extends well beyond the boardrooms of Sandton and the trendy offices of Rosebank.

While Lagos might have taken the crown for "most attractive people" in the survey (we see you, Nigeria!), Joburgers are the ones actually closing the deal. Perhaps it’s the thrill of a sunset cocktail at a rooftop bar in Maboneng, or maybe it’s just that famous Jozi confidence?

What’s the secret?

Is it the electric nightlife? The world-class dining scene? Or maybe it’s the fact that after a long day of navigating the M1, we all just need a little "stress relief"?

While other cities in the survey found the topics of sex and flirting a bit too taboo to discuss, the Time Out Loud community in Joburg was loud, proud, and incredibly candid. Our city has always been a melting pot of cultures and progressive ideas, making it the perfect playground for connection.

The continental "spicy" scale

While we took the gold for frequency, we have to give a nod to our neighbours and global peers:

• Johannesburg: 8.1 times/month (The Champions)
• Ankara: 6.7 times/month (Taking the "overall spicy" score)
• Lagos: 6.5 times/month (Highest for "seeing someone attractive")
