If your obsession with all things Korean stretches beyond bingeing Crash Landing on You or belting out Blackpink, then Sandton City is where you need to be this week.

From 20 to 29 June 2025, the Korean Food and Culture Festival is taking over the Checkers Court at Sandton City Mall, and it’s a feast for all five senses. Expect street food, sizzling flavours, pop-up cultural experiences, traditional performances and, of course, some infectious K-pop energy.

Open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM (and until 8 PM on Fridays and Saturdays), the festival invites Joburgers to dive into the full Korean experience. You'll be able to taste your way through Korea with authentic eats like bulgogi, Korean fried chicken, tteokbokki and bingsu, all freshly made by Korean chefs who know their way around a sizzling hotplate. And if you’ve never tried kimchi the proper way, now’s your chance.

But it’s not just about food. The festival gives Joburgers a proper peek into Korea’s rich traditions. You’ll find Hanbok fittings (those stunning traditional garments), live drumming shows, and calligraphy and origami stations. There's even a chance to dance along to K-pop choreo, so wear comfy shoes and bring your best moves.

The best part is that the festival is completely free, super family-friendly, and perfectly timed for the school holidays. Whether you’re already a proud member of the BTS army or just looking for a cool culture trip without the airfare, this one’s worth popping into.
