South Africa’s legendary musicians will gather in Soweto for a historic concert paying tribute to the brave youth of 1976 who fought for the country's freedom.

South Africans are in for a powerful and nostalgic musical experience as the Unity Concert heads to Johannesburg during Youth Month.
Set to take place at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, the event will bring together some of the country’s most celebrated music legends - artists who helped shape South Africa’s musical identity and placed it firmly on the global map.
Music icons including Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Marah Louw, PJ Powers, Juluka, and Blondie Makhene, among others, are expected to take the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable live performance.
The Concert will pay tribute to the fearless young people of 1976, whose bravery and sacrifice during the Soweto Uprising paved the way for the freedoms South Africans enjoy today.
Presented by the Unity Concert Foundation in partnership with the City of Johannesburg and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, the event aims to celebrate the power of music as a unifying force.
Audiences can expect nostalgic hits, powerful collaborations and an electrifying atmosphere that brings together different ethnic groups and generations of music lovers.
Beyond the music, the Concert carries a deeper message. It symbolises the baton passing from the pioneers of South African music to a new generation of artists. The lineup will also feature emerging talents who continue to push South African music onto the global stage, offering hope for the future of the country’s creative industry.
Themes of courage, unity and imagination will run throughout the show.
The event will also pay homage to the historic Concert in the Park, held in 1985, when music played a vital role in uniting people across racial and cultural divides during the struggle against apartheid.
Taking place just days before the 50th anniversary of the 1976 youth uprising, the Concert will showcase a variety of musical genres, including jazz, pop, maskandi, Afro-fusion and amapiano, ensuring a diverse experience for all music lovers.
To preserve this historic moment, the Concert will also be filmed by acclaimed filmmaker Darrell Roodt, ensuring the event lives beyond the stage and can be experienced by future generations.
The event will also go towards a good cause, with some of the proceeds from the show supporting future projects that grow South Africa’s creative sector.
