Get ready to reconnect, create memories and enjoy the city- JCZP has revitalised three of the city's beloved recreational spaces.

One thing about Johannesburg is its wealth of recreational spaces where residents can unwind, socialise, and enjoy the outdoors. For some time, however, locals were unable to fully enjoy Little Falls Ridge, Green Ridge, and Little Falls Resort due to concerns about safety, homelessness, and poor maintenance. That has now changed.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) recently completed a major clean-up and safety operation across the three sites. The initiative, announced on Monday, 16 February, aimed to restore order, dignity, and public confidence in the facilities.
JCPZ Managing Director Thanduxolo Mendrew emphasised that Little Falls Ridge is a public conservation asset, not a lawless space, and that residents’ concerns drove the intervention. He noted that the project sought to restore safety while encouraging communities to help protect shared public spaces.
More than 20 workers, supported by JCPZ internal teams and city staff, participated in the operation, working to rehabilitate infrastructures and revive the natural environment.
Visitors can once again enjoy a wide range of activities that have long made the area a local favourite. Facilities include public swimming pools, braai areas, shade lapa areas on hot days, picnic spots, stunning vegetation, and scenic hiking trails. A newly centralised braai area has also been introduced to improve convenience and safety.
In line with the city’s environmental goals, officials marked the revamp by planting an indigenous tree, reinforcing a commitment to conservation and sustainable green spaces.
With safety restored and amenities upgraded, Little Falls Ridge, Green Ridge, and Little Falls Resort are ready to welcome back families, friends, and outdoor lovers. Whether it’s a relaxed picnic, a braai with loved ones, or a peaceful walk in nature, these rejuvenated spaces offer Joburg residents even more reasons to get outside and make the most of the year ahead.
