Johannesburg, get ready - Majozi has a special show planned for you on Sunday, 13 September at 15h00 at Sognage.
The Cape Town-based indie-pop musician brings a contagious spirit of kindness to all his shows, and combined with his raw talent - and Fender in hand, his show in Jozi is set to be one to remember.
The performance at Sognage is open to all ages to enjoy, with his message ahead of 13 September one of inspiration, selflessness, and a genuine care for the future of the industry: "I want people to bring their kids, hoping they'll be inspired to play an instrument, sing or maybe even just write songs," he told Time Out Johannesburg.
Tickets for the show are available via Webtickets and are priced from R100 to R200.
We caught up with the singer-songwriter to find out more about his show at Sognage, how 2026 has treated him, and what he has planned for the coming months into 2027.
Time Out in conversation with Majozi
Time Out: How has 2026 treated you so far? What have been some of the highlights?
Majozi: "2026 has been a great year for my career so far. I've released an EP, titled 'Flannel Music', and did my first-ever tour of Australia and New Zealand. I can't tell you what an epic time I had there. I'm so happy and grateful that I got to do it.
Why Sognage and what is your goal for the show? Why should people get their tickets?
"I've always wanted to play at Sognage and I've heard so many great things from friends who have played there in the past, so I just had to give it a go myself. One of my goals is to sell out this show, and give people an experience unique to who I am, but my main goal is to inspire people. I want people to bring their kids, hoping they'll be inspired to play an instrument or sing or maybe even just write songs. That's why we made the tickets cheaper for kids. The show starts at 3pm so it's early enough to get everyone to bed at a reasonable time.
"I'd also like other musicians to attend and feel inspired to put on their own shows as well. I want to inspire people to go to more shows and create wonderful memories together. I want people to leave the show saying that was a great time, and I'm so glad we came. If I can just facilitate that from stage and be a small part of those memories and moments, I'll be so happy.
What are your three favourite songs to play live and why?
- 'I Want You Love': There's a fun solo that I get to play on guitar and the song is a vibe.
- 'The Greatest Love': It has a special moment that we try to create with the crowd. I don't want to give it away now so you'll have to come and see it for yourself.
- 'Darling': Just hearing people sing along to this will always be special for me.
If you could change one thing about the local music scene, what would it be and why?
"I would make things more accessible to everyone. Musicians and fans alike. More access to opportunities and venues for musicians and more access to shows for fans.
What are you currently working on and what plans do you have for the rest of the year into 2027?
"I've just been in London, England for a festival but for the most part I'm working on the show at Sognage, and another massive show that we have planned for Cape Town next year, as well as more international shows.
If you could perform live on stage with one artist - dead or alive, who would that be and why?
"Kings of Leon. I've loved that band forever
Who are your top five local artists of all time and why?
"I love this Question! Matthew Mole because he is amazing and without him there is no me. Aking because they are so cool and have some of the best-written and most interesting songs I've ever heard. Gangs of Ballet because they really paved the way for so many of us from Durban - and they mentored me. Francois Van Coke, is one of the greatest humans alive. Civil Twilight, because they are the gold standard for me.
Could you give us a little bit of insight into your songwriting process...
"Honestly, it's magic. I dunno what I'm doing, and I'm tired of pretending like I do. I am blessed to be the conduit for these songs, but I truly believe they come from somewhere else.
Majozi's musical journey
The Durban-born singer-songwriter burst onto the music scene in 2013 with his debut EP, 'Marvellous Light'; a major hit with audiences across South Africa.
In 2016, his first full-length album, 'Fire', took his following to the next level, with a iTunes Top 3 spot and SAMA nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album capping off a fantastic release.
Two years later brought the release of his self-titled album - which boasted two chart-topping singles, 'Waiting' and 'Somebody'. An appearance as a guest judge on 'The Voice' took his sound to a wider audience, while working with the Soweto Gospel Choir was a career highlight.
Majozi has gone on to perform at major South African festivals such as Rocking the Daisies, OppiKoppi, and KDay, as well as touring Amsterdam alongside Francois van Coke and Die Heuwels Fantasties, and opening for the likes of international heavyweights The Lumineers, Neon Dreams, and Calum Scott.
In March 2023, Majozi released a brand new single, entitled 'Safe In The Sound', before ticking off a serious bucket list item - performing at the world-renowned 2023 SXSW Music Festival.
More singles, namely 'You and I', 'Honest', 'Far Away', 'Hold Tight', 'I’ll Be There', 'Mi Amor', and 'Afterglow' featuring Mikhaela Faye, have been released since, while tours of Canada, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, and the UK - which included sold out performances at The Grace in London - have been huge for his career.
