New fine dining restaurant set to open in Sandton

Johannesburg’s culinary scene is kicking off May on a high note with the arrival of a new fine dining destination. A new restaurant called Kora is set to open in the heart of Sandton, promising an elevated experience for lovers of good food, great music, and stylish ambience.

After weeks of teasing its launch on social media with visually enticing images and videos, Kora is finally ready to welcome guests in a few weeks' time. The restaurant will officially open on Friday, 1 May, and is located at The Marc Shopping Centre, at the corner of Rivonia and Maude Street in Sandown. 

To mark the occasion, Kora is pulling out all the stops. Guests attending the opening can expect a six-course dining experience, complete with curated beverages. Some of the meals include amuse-bouche, heirloom tarte tatin, short rib, cured seabass, and dessert, while the drinks include a marula mirage cocktail and Provence rosé. 

Adding to the excitement, the evening will feature live entertainment by Mi Casa, known for their feel-good sound and vibrant performances. Mi Casa’s lead singer, J’Something, is also a cook and restaurateur, making him no stranger to the world of flavour and fine dining. The exclusive experience is priced at R2,500 per person and offers guests an immersive evening of food, music, and atmosphere.

Kora is more than just a restaurant; it also doubles as a bar and lounge, designed as a space where guests can connect, unwind, and create lasting memories. While the full menu is yet to be revealed, the establishment has already been described as a luxurious dining destination.

Adding a cultural touch, the restaurant draws inspiration from the kora, a traditional West African string instrument known for its rich, rhythmic sound. 

With Sandton already home to some of Johannesburg’s top fine dining spots, all eyes will be on Kora to see how it distinguishes itself in a competitive culinary landscape.
