In partnership with Marist Brothers School and Sojo, the campaign tackles period poverty by providing sanitary products, food and clothing.

Thousands of girls across South Africa miss school every month due to a lack of access to essential hygiene products, such as sanitary towels. This ongoing challenge not only disrupts their education but also affects their confidence and dignity.
In response, Mall of the South has partnered with Marist Brothers School and the community organisation Sojo to launch a meaningful donation drive to change this reality. The initiative focuses on collecting sanitary towels from the public and distributing them to girls from underprivileged communities.
By ensuring access to basic sanitary products, the initiative aims to help young girls attend school consistently and with confidence, removing a barrier that has, for far too long, stood in the way of their education.
For many girls, the lack of proper sanitary care has led them to resort to alternatives such as cloth or tissue, which can be unreliable and uncomfortable. This often leads to embarrassment or the decision to stay home during their menstrual cycle, resulting in missed lessons and, over time, a disrupted academic journey.
Beyond sanitary products, the initiative is taking a holistic approach to support. Donations also include fresh vegetables and pre-loved clothing items, thanks to Sojo’s involvement. This means beneficiaries will not only receive hygiene essentials but also access to food and clothing, restoring dignity and improving overall well-being.
The campaign officially kicked off on 19 March, and members of the public are encouraged to contribute by dropping off sanitary towels at the Mall of the South or the Marist Brothers School.
Initiatives like this continue to gain momentum across the country, highlighting the power of community-driven change. They serve as a reminder that small acts, like donating a pack of sanitary towels, can have a lasting impact on someone’s future. More than just a donation drive, this initiative is about restoring dignity, protecting education, and inspiring hope- reinforcing Johannesburg’s reputation as a city that cares deeply for its communities.
