Great news for South Africans living abroad, collecting your passport just became much easier.

The Department of Home Affairs has expanded its international footprint, adding more service centres where South Africans can apply for and collect their passports within just a few weeks.

Taking to social media this week, the department announced newly listed service centres across several countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand and China.

This expansion means South Africans living abroad no longer have to endure long queues, costly travel, or complicated arrangements to access passport services. In some of these countries, multiple collection points are now available.

According to the Minister of Home Affairs, the total number of global cities where South Africans can obtain passport services has now increased to 25. The move is aimed at improving accessibility and strengthening service delivery for citizens outside the country.

Services Available

The international centres will offer:

  • Passport applications
  • Passport renewals
  • Birth certificate applications
  • Registration services for South African citizens born abroad whose births have not yet been recorded.

In addition to in-person services, citizens will also have the option of courier delivery for their passports. This announcement was made in October.

The department introduced doorstep passport delivery for South Africans abroad, officially launching the initiative on 1 November 2025.

Through this service, passports can be delivered directly to applicants’ homes. Delivery fees range from US$30 to US$60 (approximately R520-R1000), depending on location, with turnaround times of 24-72 hours.

These developments form part of Home Affairs’ broader efforts to modernise operations and place efficient service delivery at the forefront, ensuring that South Africans, wherever they are in the world, can access essential services with greater ease.
