Bridge Books, one of the most popular bookstores in Johannesburg, is getting a new look. The bookstore announced this on Thursday, September 11.

The bookstore, which is a favourite spot for book lovers and children who play educational games, began renovations this week.

"The talks about renovation have been going on for a long time, but we started with the renovations this week," explains Katya Strydom, who works at the store.

Katya says that because the bookstore was operating from an old building, the renovations will transform it into a modern and " very beautiful space."

Book lovers will be excited to know that the renovations are not interfering with operations.

"The bookstore is still functional, just a bit messy and dusty," says Katya.

When asked when users can expect the unveiling of the new look, she said, "very tentatively, by the end of October."

Katya says the Underground Booksellers Walking Tour, which the bookstore also runs, is on pause until further notice.

Bridge Books is located at 89 Helen Joseph St, corner of Rissik, by the Old City Hall.
