The wait is officially over, well, part of it. Queertopia, Johannesburg’s most vibrant celebration of queer joy, art, and community, has just hit the "go" live button on tickets for its 2026 edition.

Set to return to the historic grounds of Constitution Hill on February 28-March 1, the festival, curated by the visionaries at Other Village People (OVP), is already the talk of the town. But while the "Early Bird" tickets are expected to fly off the digital shelves, there’s one big question hanging in the Jozi air: Who is actually performing?

The speculation game

If you’ve been scrolling through local lifestyle creators’ feeds this morning, you’ve likely seen the frenzy. Online sleuths and festival-goers are convinced that the ticket launch is a strategic "warm-up" for a massive lineup announcement coming within the next few days.

In a video on TikTok, local culture commentator RuRu expressed excitement at the ticket drop, saying, "If the tickets are up now, it means the line-up is not far behind.” She also offered some suggestions of who she hopes will be on the lineup, including Lizzie Berchie and Charlotte Day Wilson.

Historically, Queertopia has a reputation for bringing heavy hitters. Last year, international sensation Ego Ella May headlined, alongside local icons such as Zöe Modiga, Langa Mavuso, and Bongeziwe Mabandla.

What we know so far

While the organisers are keeping their cards close to their chests regarding the artists, the "vibe" of Queertopia 2026 is already clear:

  • The Venue: Constitution Hill remains the symbolic heart of the festival, representing a space of transformation and human rights.
  • The Experience: Beyond the music, expect the signature Zen Room, conversation circles, immersive art installations, and a strictly curated safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies.
  • The Tickets: Available now on Quicket, with prices starting around R350 for day passes and R650 for the full weekend experience.

Why the Hype?

Queertopia isn't just a party; it’s a "metaphorical country" designed by and for the queer community. As co-founder Andiswa Dlamini (AN.D) has previously shared, the energy is "contagious and inspiring," born from a place of authenticity and resilience. For Joburgers, it’s the ultimate "good life" routine, balancing a fierce work ethic with the radical permission to rest and dance.
