The “King of Neo-Soul” returns to South Africa this August for a celebration of soulful sounds and 30 years of musical excellence.

Grab your tissues and your dancing shoes, the rumours are true. Vertex Events has officially confirmed that three-time Grammy Award-winner Maxwell is heading back to South Africa for two massive shows this August.
Timed perfectly for the Women’s Day long weekend, the tour promises an intimate yet electric atmosphere as the R&B legend performs hits from his three-decade-long career. Whether you’ve been a fan since his 1996 debut Urban Hang Suite or you’ve had Pretty Wings on repeat for years, this is a “must-see” on the 2026 Johannesburg/Pretoria social calendar.
Maxwell will be performing in two cities, with the Pretoria leg serving as the perfect long-weekend highlight for Jozi locals willing to make the short trek to Time Square. He will light up the stage on Saturday, 8 August 2026 at SunBet Arena, Time Square, before heading to Cape Town on Tuesday, 11 August 2026 to take on Grand Arena, GrandWest.
Tickets officially went live on Sunday, 19 April 2026, and if previous tours are anything to go by, they won’t last long.
Maxwell isn’t just a singer; he’s a performer who has defined the sound of modern soul. Expect a setlist packed with timeless classics like: Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder), This Woman’s Work (I’ll be screeching this one out at top volume), Fortunate and Pretty Wings.
"Maxwell is an immaculate artist and performer with an amazing music catalogue... we expect nothing less than a great performance," says Thato Segaole, Executive Director of Vertex Events.
Time Out Tip for Joburgers: Since the Pretoria show falls on a Saturday during the Women’s Day weekend, consider going big and booking a stay at Time Square or nearby in Menlyn to turn the concert into a full luxury getaway because R&B sensation Tamia takes the stage on 10 August 2026.
