Randburg’s ‘Jozi Jacuzzi’ makes a splash

Only in Joburg could a pothole evolve into a full-blown “open-air jacuzzi” and only in Joburg would we find the humour in it.

The infamous hole in the street started life as a humble pothole. Fast-forward a few months, a leak, and a little neglect later… and voilà: Randburg now boasts its very own open-air Jacuzzi. The so-called Jozi Jacuzzi bubbled away for ages, earning side-eyes from locals and eventually a feature on the popular investigative journalism show Carte Blanche.

Of course, it only got fixed when the show’s cameras rolled in, but not before host Macfarlane Moleli gave us the ultimate lifestyle review. In a viral video, he takes a dip in the murky waters, with the show dubbing it his new “Ironman training facility.”

The clip has Joburgers cackling online, proving once again that even when service delivery springs a leak, the city’s resilience and sense of humour come pouring through.

Think of it as Joburg’s quirkiest pop-up spa: open 24/7 (until the city remembers it exists), free entry, and the ultimate cold-plunge experience. Great for circulation and resilience training, less great for traffic.

The “spa” has since been fixed according to the post on Carte Blanche's Facebook page, but its legacy lives on as proof that Jozi’s true superpower isn’t infrastructure, it’s resilience, grit, and a wicked sense of humour.

If Joburg’s viral “Jacuzzi” gave you a giggle, wait till you see what else this city’s serving up. We’ve seen Melville locals plant petunias in potholes, checked into a brand-new luxury spa at Steyn City, and rounded up the best spas in Johannesburg for when you’d prefer your plunge pool to come with bubbles and a robe. Oh, and speaking of plunges, Coffee-and-Plunge events are officially back after their winter hiatus. Only in Joburg, where even the leaks, cracks, and quirks become part of the lifestyle.
