Rea Vaya is getting ready to take commuters to more destinations around Gauteng.

The bus rapid transit (BRT) which is committed to providing safe, reliable, and sustainable public transport is expanding its reach across the city.

This October, the BRT will launch Phase 1C(a) as part of #JoburgTransportMonth2025. The launch will take place on Tuesday 14 October in Alexandra.

This route will offer Joburg commuters more options and convenience - providing transport from the inner city through Hillbrow, Yeoville, Orange Grove, Bramley, Wynberg to Alexandra and Sandton. It will also help reduce congestion on some of the city's biggest areas.

"The introduction of Phase 1C(a) will bring safe, affordable, and reliable transport to the residents of Berea, Yeoville, Orange Groove, Cheldondale, Norwood, Balfour Park, Bramley, Wynberg, Alexandra, Malboro, Athol, Sandton, Longmeadow and Greenstone," reads a statement on Rea Vaya Facebook page.

Earlier this year, the transit system announced that progress is going well.

'Rea Vaya Phase 1 C (a) along Louis Botha Avenue to Sandton is progressing well with much of the work already having been completed to-date. Already, all 13 low floor stations are close to being completed. Three key bridges, Rea Vaya bus and pedestrian bridge located along Lees Street in Marlboro, dedicated cycling and walking bridge by Grayston Drive and Heritage bridge in the Berea area, close to the old Herbert Baker bus station have been built and ready for the operations of Rea Vaya Phase 1C (a) buses,' read a statement on the bus service site.

The announcement is good news, especially for commuters who have to travel to the different areas within the city for work, school, and services.
