Good news for our neighbours up north: South African Airways (SAA) is launching a brand-new service between Gaborone and Johannesburg, making it easier than ever to touch down in the city of gold. From Tuesday, 4 November 2025, SAA will operate two return flights daily, seven days a week, and bookings are already open at flysaa.com.
Whether you’re visiting for business, culture, shopping, or nightlife, the quick hop south takes less than an hour. The morning service leaves Gaborone at 08:25 and lands in Joburg at 09:25, perfect timing for a full day in the city. The evening flight departs at 18:00 and arrives in Johannesburg at 19:00, so travellers can head straight to a dinner reservation or check into a hotel.
The outbound flights to Botswana are just as convenient, giving Joburgers two options daily to jet off to Gaborone. The morning service departs Johannesburg at 06:50, arriving in Gaborone at 07:45. The afternoon rotation departs Johannesburg at 16:25, arriving in Gaborone at 17:20.
SAA’s Group CEO, Prof John Lamola, says the new route isn’t just about convenience, it’s about strengthening regional ties: “The launch of this route not only strengthens the cultural and economic ties between Botswana and South Africa but also reinforces SAA’s position as a premium network carrier.”
With this addition, Joburg cements its role as a central hub for business and leisure in Southern Africa. For travellers from Gaborone, it means a smoother, faster connection to Johannesburg’s energy, whether that’s a day of shopping in Sandton, a weekend of concerts and nightlife, or a stopover en route to SAA’s wider African and international network.
