Good news for pizza lovers: one of the country's beloved pizzerias, Scooters Pizza, is opening a new outlet in Rosebank.

Nothing hits quite like a great slice of pizza, and Scooters Pizza is known for serving mouth-watering flavours. The iconic pizzeria made its long-awaited return to Johannesburg after a decade-long absence, opening its first local branch in Melville in October.
Now, the brand is expanding to another spot in Johannesburg. The second location is set to open in Rosebank at Park Corner, situated at the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Bolton Road. Last year, the pizzeria announced it would expand into different parts of the country.
"📍🗺 YES! From Melville to Mbombela, from Cape Town to Kakamas, from Durban to Dobsonville, we'll be heading your way 👉Soon we'll be scooting 🛵 our LEGENDARY pizza all throughout South Africa 🍕," it announced on Facebook.
Juan Engelbrecht, the franchise veteran, says Joburgers are in for a treat at the new Rosebank branch, adding that the brand remains committed to offering great taste at affordable prices despite the current economic pressures facing many South Africans.
"We offer super large pizzas for R89, which I think is unheard of in the market today. We give great value for money for our beloved customers," Engelbrecht told Time Out Johannesburg.
He also highlighted the many accolades the pizzeria collected over the years.
"We won several awards, including Best Pizza, and we are known for making the tastiest pizzas," he added.
Engelbrecht went on to tease an upcoming menu revamp, revealing that customers can expect exciting new flavours.
"We have five or six new local flavours that reflect our South African identity and show our support for our country," he said.
Engelbrecht congratulated the new Franchisee, Ashan Ajoodha, who has acquired the Rosebank branch, and confirmed that two additional outlets will be opening between February and March.
The announcement of Scooters Pizza opening a new Johannesburg branch has generated excitement among locals, particularly given the brand’s long and popular history in South Africa.
The pizzeria first entered the South African market in 2000, launching in KwaZulu-Natal before expanding to Johannesburg and the Western Cape in 2003. By 2010, the pizzeria had grown to more than 100 outlets nationwide, cementing its status as one of the country’s most loved pizza chains. Part of its appeal lay in its promise:'scorching hot delivery in 39 minutes, or it's free'.
According to a statement on Scooters Pizza’s website, the brand’s exit from the local market more than a decade ago was caused by a 2014 agreement with Taste Holdings to roll out Domino’s across Southern Africa, and it invited Scooters and St Elmo’s franchisees to convert. However, things didn't go as planned, and that led to the closure.
Scooters states that despite closure, the brand remained close to the hearts of many South Africans, with fans calling for its return. Its return has so far been met with strong enthusiasm, with social media users sharing images of them enjoying the popular pizza.
The new Rosebank outlet is set to launch on 5 February.
