Johannesburg recently welcomed the first Total Ninja Interactive in South Africa, and it’s landed at Fourways Mall. The new opening marks a major evolution for the local adventure brand, introducing a more compact, tech-driven indoor play concept designed specifically for shopping malls.
While Total Ninja is already well known for its large-scale obstacle and adventure parks across the country, the Interactive format takes things in a new direction. This is the brand’s first South African space to blend physical play with immersive mixed-reality gaming, creating an experience that feels part playground, part video game – and fully built for today’s digital-native families.
At the heart of the venue are award-winning attractions developed by Finnish tech company Valo Motion, whose mixed-reality systems are making their local debut here. The idea is simple yet clever: real-world movement, such as jumping, climbing and competing, is enhanced with digital layers that turn physical challenges into interactive games. The result is active play that feels fast-paced, social and far removed from passive screen time.
The Johannesburg opening follows the successful launch of a similar ValoPark-inspired concept in Dubai earlier this year; however, this Fourways Mall location marks the first time South Africans can experience Total Ninja Interactive for themselves. Designed to fit seamlessly into a modern retail environment, the space acts as a kind of indoor “fun court”, giving families a reason to stay longer and return more often.
What to expect
Inside the 1,250-square-metre venue, visitors will find a mix of mixed-reality and physical attractions. These include ValoJump Air trampolines, interactive ValoClimb walls and a ValoArena that turns physical competition into a high-energy digital game. More traditional crowd-pleasers, such as Dodge Attack, Wipeout, and Battle Ball, add to the action, while a Mini Ninja soft play area caters to kids under five.
The venue has also been designed with parents and groups in mind. A café and spectator zone allow adults to watch the action comfortably, and five dedicated party rooms cater for birthdays, school outings and group events. Exclusive Ninja merchandise and gift cards are available on site.
As shopping malls continue to evolve into lifestyle destinations, the arrival of the first Total Ninja Interactive in South Africa signals where indoor entertainment is heading: active, immersive and built for shared experiences.
For Joburg families looking for something new to do indoors, Fourways Mall now offers a first-of-its-kind addition to the city’s entertainment mix, and we can't wait to give it a try.
