Five pieces of KFC chicken. Two mash and gravy. Two coleslaws. Two portions of chips. Two double chicken burgers. Four rolls.
That's what the Monster Family Meal from KFC consisted of back in 1995. The cost? A mere R36.99.
Yes, I know how inflation works and how the cost of living has shot up over the years, but to think all of this food was attainable for just R36.99 three decades ago is crazy and a little scary.
Check out the advert that's been floating around social media below:
Scanning through the KFC menu of 2025, to build a meal like the above using the closest available options to what was available back then, you'd need to fork out R444.70.
If you took that same R36.99 with you into the popular fast food chain today, you couldn't even get a Streetwise Two!

R10.80 for a Zinger burger and drink in 1997?! Crazy price aside, why can't I remember Ryan Stiles of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' fame being in the advert?
A full chicken from Chicken Licken in 1996 cost just R20.95! A Joe's Full House always went down well! RIP to the legend, Joe Mafela.
Fancy a Spur fillet steak with all the trimmings for R15.95?
