Virgin Atlantic is giving Joburg travellers more flexibility (and a little more sleep) with an updated flight schedule between Johannesburg and London Heathrow, set to take off from 26 October 2025.

The changes mean earlier arrivals into Johannesburg, perfect for squeezing more into your day, and later evening departures out of Joburg, making the overnight journey to London smoother and better timed for onward connections across North America, the Caribbean, and Europe.

What’s changing

  • London Heathrow (LHR) to Johannesburg (JNB) now departs at 18h50 (instead of 22h30) and lands at 07h50 (instead of 11h30).

  • Johannesburg (JNB) to London Heathrow (LHR) now departs at 21h45 (instead of 19h30) and arrives at 06h50 (instead of 04h50).

Marc Harding, Virgin Atlantic’s South Africa Country Manager, says the tweaks are about making the customer journey better: “Whether that’s maximising time on the ground, seamless onward connections, or simply experiencing the unique service we’re known for. We remain deeply committed to this market and excited to keep building on the strong ties between South Africa, the UK and beyond.”

Virgin Atlantic has been flying to South Africa for almost 30 years, making Johannesburg one of its key global gateways. Passengers can connect onwards via London Heathrow to destinations across North America, the Caribbean, and Europe, with added benefits thanks to the airline’s membership in the SkyTeam alliance.

And for those starting their journey here, the experience begins on the ground with Virgin Atlantic’s stylish Johannesburg Clubhouse, a lounge that celebrates local flavour with South African-inspired dishes, regional wines, and all the pre-flight comforts you could want.

With new timings designed around traveller convenience, Virgin Atlantic is doubling down on its commitment to Joburg and keeping its London link as seamless as ever.
