Wildlife is on the loose at the Brakpan Tailings Facility, in Johannesburg’s gold graveyards. This is, according to a report by Daily Maverick.

This is reportedly not the first time that the wild animals were spotted in the area.

Some of the wild animals include zebras, warthogs, blesbok, and wildebeests.

“We noticed wildlife like warthogs and jackal returning to the area,” Daily Maverick quotes CEO Niel Pretorius.

He explained that the wild animals were attracted by the indigenous trees and diversity of plant and animal life within the area.

“The biodiversity here is natural and that is why it attracts birds and other animals,” Pretorius told the publication.

The facility is run by DRDGOLD and is located on the east of Johannesburg.

Time Out reached out to Brakpan Tailings Facility and DRDGold. By the time of this publication, they had not responded.
