Joburg, it’s time to dust off your capes and polish those collectables, Comic Con Africa 2025 is swooping into the Joburg Expo Centre, Nasrec, from 28 to 31 August.
Four jam-packed days of fandom, fun and geeky greatness are on the horizon, and trust us, this year is bigger, bolder and nerdier than ever.
First things first: the celebs. Big names are coming through, Jessie T. Usher (yes, A-Train from The Boys), Misha Collins (Supernatural’s favourite trench coat-wearing angel), Dan Fogler from Fantastic Beasts, and Babylon 5’s Julie Caitlin Brown. Adding some local flavour is SA’s own Chioma Umeala. Between autograph signings, photo ops and Q&A sessions, you’ll have more than enough excuses to fangirl or fanboy to your heart’s content.
Then there are the brand activations, which, let’s be real, are half the fun. Disney+ is bringing an immersive experience, M-Net Fan Favourites is back, and Nintendo is ready to throw down with MarioKart. AXE is taking fans on a sensory trip, Kellogg’s is on breakfast duty, and even Sea Harvest is getting in on the action with life-sized fish-finger superheroes roaming the halls. Where else would you find that?
Gamers, you’re covered. The Experience Hall is basically a digital playground, with tournaments, free-to-play zones and specials from some of the biggest names in tech and gaming. From CS2 to Tekken 8 to Gran Turismo 7, this is where the button-mashing legends and pros come to play (and win).
If you’re bringing the little ones, KidsCon is a full-blown convention within a convention. There’s slime, Fortnite, Pokémon battles, character visits, and even Hello Kitty exclusives from LUSH. Mario & Luigi, Geoffrey the Giraffe and a squad of family-friendly icons will be around all weekend to keep mini-geeks entertained.
And of course, Artist Alley is back and bigger than ever. Over 135 artists will be showing off their work, from stunning prints to custom commissions. It’s the perfect place to pick up a one-of-a-kind piece or just soak in the creativity. Add in workshops, cosplay competitions (from casual catwalks to the epic Championships of Cosplay), and shopping galore, and you’ve got yourself a weekend well spent.
Oh, and don’t forget to step outside. Between food trucks, a rage room, lawn games, live music and even WWII reenactments, the outdoor vibe promises to be just as electric as what’s happening indoors.
Bottom line: Comic Con Africa 2025 isn’t just an event, it’s a full-blown celebration of everything geeky, creative and community-driven. Whether you go for the celebs, the cosplay, the gaming or just the vibes, this is Joburg’s ultimate fan experience.
