Lee Cole's Guide To The City of Gold

Salvation Café

My go-to spot for breakfast or brunch would have to be Salvation Café, at 44 Stanley in Milpark, Johannesburg. Amazing vibe and great food. Always a treat.

Vera Vita

On days when I want to treat myself, I always head to an Italian restaurant in the south of Joburg called Vera Vita. Best pizzas and pastas in town, and a clean Italian aesthetic to immerse yourself in.

Yamitsuki

There's an Asian restaurant called Yamitsuki in Bedfordview that I wish more people knew about. Not only is the food great, but the experience is amazing, especially if you book a few seats by the teppanyaki grill. Great spot to bring family and friends to.

Big Mouth

We're really blessed with the sheer number of good restaurants in Johannesburg, and because I love all kinds of food and cuisines, it's difficult to mention just one.

However, Big Mouth in Sandton City never disappoints, and I find it has quite a wide variety of food for you to choose from. From sizzling steaks to gourmet sushi, the menu caters for any appetite.

Meyersdal

The south of Joburg, and Meyersdal in particular, has always been the place I find easiest to spend time in. There are great restaurants, many parks and nature reserves, many shopping malls and many sporting facilities available for those with an active streak.

Rietvlei Nature Reserve

There's a beautiful nature reserve called Rietvlei, close to where I stay, with many hiking and biking trails. When I want to escape a little or head out for a walk or run, I usually head there. On weekends, they have many family events and gatherings that are always fun to attend.

Eastgate Shopping Centre

My go-to place for shopping would have to be Eastgate Shopping Centre, close to Bedfordview. I grew up going to the mall, and now that I'm older, I've kept the tradition. They've got a wide range of boutiques and stores. I especially love the Zara store there, and it's here where I'm constantly updating or adding to my fashion collection.

Modena

Because I spend most of my downtime around food, I'm going to direct your attention to another Italian restaurant called Modena, located in Parkhurst. Beautiful atmosphere and food, and a perfect place to spend a Friday or Saturday night.

Lion & Safari Park

I always suggest the Lion & Safari Park to people who want to get a taste of the beautiful wildlife we have in our country. Not far from Lanseria Airport, the Lion and Safari Park offers out-of-towners a chance to come face to face with Lions, Cheetahs and more.
