Every day I'm shuffling: BrewDog shuffleboard bar opens Friday

Whether it's darts, fruit machines, giant Jenga or a trusty pub quiz, it's safe to say that we like some form of entertainment to complement our beer drinking.

On Friday July 31, craft beer experts BrewDog will be opening its second venue on New York Road in the Northern Quarter, called ShuffleDog, and finding ways to keep you amused is high on the agenda – even if it means heading more than 500 years back in time.

The first of its kind for a BrewDog bar (and the UK, in fact), the big feature for ShuffleDog is the installation of three 22 foot long shuffleboard tables; a game which first gained popularity in the 16th century.

At the risk of upsetting the shuffleboard hardcore, the game is similar to curling, where two players take turns sliding pucks down the table into scoring zones, while knocking aside their opponent's pucks.

While you are waiting for your turn at the table, ShuffleDog will have plenty more to keep you busy. In addition to vintage arcade and pinball machines, and the promise of a game of Cards Against Humanity, there will of course be BrewDog's eclectic range of beers. Thirty five draft-only options will be available, along with a food menu containing the familiar selection of burgers and hotdogs.
