It’s been a year since BBC3 made the leap from terrestrial channel to online streaming service. And in the last 12 months it’s been home to some seriously good telly, from Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s hilariously sad ‘Fleabag’ to witness protection comedy ‘Witless’. Here’s a rundown of our favourites.

The best TV on BBC3

Thirteen
Thirteen

1. Thirteen

Jodie Comer stars as Ivy Moxam in this twisty, gripping five-parter. She’s a 26-year-old who was kidnapped and held captive for 13 years. The series opens as she escapes from her cellar and follows her as she tries to step back into the life she used to live.
Witless

2. Witless

Two ordinary flatmates from Bristol, played by Zoe Boyle and Kerry Howard, find themselves in witness protection after seeing a gangland shooting. They are given new identities and moved to Swindon, but their new lives don’t quite go to plan in this funny female-centric sitcom.

3. Fleabag

‘Fleabag’ is an absolute gem of a TV series. Created by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge as the titular fleabag, it’s a clever, unflinching and funny look at life, love and youth. Our heroine is selfish and self-destructive in equal measure, and watching her life unravel will have you laughing one minute and sobbing the next.
Murder in Successville

4. Murder in Successville

Celebrities guest star in an improvised crime caper. Sound strange? That’s because it is. ‘Murder in Successville’ is a unique beast. In one episode, Greg James must help DI Sleet solve Reese Witherspoon’s murder, where Reverend Gary Barlow and Mary Berry are suspects. It’s silly, sometimes hysterical stuff.

Comedian Romesh Ranganathan is brilliant in this funny travelogue-style series. He’s sent on a journey of discovery around Sri Lanka by his mum, who is desperate for him to connect with his roots.

6. Class

This sparky ‘Doctor Who’ spin-off is set in Coal Hill school, which has long been part of the Who universe. Written and created by Patrick Ness, the story follows a group of students who are tasked with dealing with alien threats (as well as getting dates to prom and passing their exams…)
