Christmastide 1816 says
Friends travelling down the river and through the woods to Locust Grove on a crisp day in early December means only one thing--it’s time for Christmastide! Locust Grove will come alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of the season, with all the talk about the events of the past year that accompanies such a festive occasion.

Go behind the scenes of a Croghan Family Christmas as they prepare to welcome their friends and neighbors from Louisville, Clarksville, and beyond to their home for Christmas 1816!

*Find Lucy and her female friends and relations as they prepare for the party by donning their holiday finery, while the men outfit themselves in a similar fashion.
*Join in the music and dancing as the young ladies practice their repertoire and prepare for the evening’s revels.
*Pull up a chair if you come upon the young men engaging in a game of whist or speculation and ask them to deal a hand to you.
*Venture out to the kitchen to observe preparation of the evening’s delicacies, and marvel at the smells from the luxurious herbs and spices that season the dishes for this special evening.
*Inquire about the gifts the Croghans plan to give to one another and shop in our Holiday Craft Market in the Visitors’ Center to find similar 18th century goods for your own families. A small selection of books will also be available for sale.
*Children will have the chance to participate in period holiday activities such as making orange and clove pomanders and holiday cards, and reading Christmas stories.

Join your cheer with ours at Christmastide--all are assured of a warm welcome!
