Gallery K Free Cinema: Style Wars says
In conjunction with our March art show: Bold Face, which opens this Friday, our Gallery K Free Cinema pick this week will be the critically classic documentary, Style Wars.

In 1983, cinematographer Tony Silver gave us one of the most important documents of Hip Hop and graffiti art ever recorded. In order to capture the truth about this budding yet guarded underground street culture, Silver had to first befriend and gain the trust of the young artists, many of them only teenagers. Once they let him in, he was able to show all of us that the very birth of this now multimillion dollar art form was simply small, singular individuals with a name they wanted everyone to know, most importantly their peers. The simplest avenue to notoriety is to write your name, everywhere. Featuring candid interviews with some of the most influential legends of the culture, Style Wars is undeniably quintessential viewing to anyone interested in hip hop, or street art. If you love graffiti and you haven’t seen Style Wars; Are you serious? Your chance is now. And if you’ve already seen Style Wars, you’re definitely good to revisit it.

So, join us once again this Thursday night at Gallery K for a complimentary screening of Style Wars. Showtime is at 8PM and as always, the screening is FREE and open to the public, B.Y.O.B., and popcorn will be provided. Destroy all lines. - CG
