The word hatha is translated as ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon”. The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word yuj, means “to bind” or mostly interpreted as “union”; uniting your mind, body and soul. Hatha Yoga is the heart of all practices. It is not about flexibility or the ability to do difficult postures, but awareness of the body and the breath; combining your mind, body and soul into one, while focusing on your breath. The asanas (or postures) are designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. They help open all of the channels in your body so that energy can flow freely. This class is suitable for all levels.

As Founder and Director of Your Yoga, Jessi is an instructor, yoga practitioner, and constant student. She is dedicated to living and teaching a yogic lifestyle, including a non-harming, non-violent vegan culture. Jessi, a Louisville native, began practicing yoga 9 years ago. As an athlete, she viewed yoga as a new “exercise” that would improve her dexterity and help relieve sports-related pain and injuries. Jessi soon realized that yoga is so much more and she wanted to share it with others. Jessi received her 200-hour teaching certificate with Shelli Carpenter, Director of Eternal Health Yoga. She is currently working toward her 500-hour certification and is a registered Yoga instructor with the Yoga Alliance.
