Quick gesture poses, studies, sketches, exercises...all from direct observation of the figure. For over 10 years, a group of artists, The Figurative Collective, have met weekly for "life drawing" sessions from the nude or costumed model. Their sketches can be loose, expressive interpretations, technically drawn exquisite renderings, or painted studies in any medium.

To add to the artist's challenge of interpreting the human figure, the models must hold difficult poses, which require concentration and strength. The poses vary form quick, lasting only seconds, to long, lasting several hours with breaks every 20 minutes. Additionally, the viewer of the work is quite familiar with the form, and expects certain proportions even from the quickest studies. Drawing from the live model is one of the most challenging exercises for the artist.

Considered traditional training in art schools, life drawing sessions push the artist technically, and develop skills of personal expression and interpretation. Life drawing sessions continue to offer artists the unique opportunity of working from a living breathing model and the beauty of the human form.
