“The assured feature debut . . . affectingly expresses the tension between tradition and personal identity.”—Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times

The sexual awakening of eighteen-year-old Korean American David Cho (Joe Seo in a celebrated performance) occurs within the spas and karaoke bars of Koreatown in Los Angeles. His role as the quiet and dutiful son of economically struggling immigrant parents is threatened as his emerging desires are tested by the lure of an all-male spa.

Winner of best actor prizes for Joe Seo at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and Outfest Film Festival. 2016, U.S., DCP, in English and Korean with English subtitles, 93 minutes. Recommended for 17+

Presented with an introduction and post-screening discussion led by Dr. Jongwoo Jeremy Kim, Associate Professor, Modern Art, Hite Art Institute, University of Louisville. Dr. Kim is a co-editor of Difficult Queers in Art and Poetry: Rethinking the Sexed Body in Verse and Visual Culture (2017). The final chapter in his next book Transplanted: Wandering Body Parts and the Queer Uncanny treats Andrew Ahn and queer cinema.
