“A coolly gripping account of one of the most bizarre true-crime stories ever to emerge from the film world.”—Justin Chang, Variety

This gripping tale of love, art, and political intrigue would be hard to believe if it wasn’t true. The South Korean filmmaker Shin Sang-ok and actress Choi Eun-hee fell in love in the 1950s. By the 70s, they were on the top of Korean society when Choi was kidnapped in Hong Kong by North Korean agents and taken to meet movie fan Kim Jong-il.

Shin was also kidnapped, and the couple was forced to serve as the personal filmmakers of Kim, producing 17 feature films for the dictator, gaining his trust and planning a complex escape. 2016; U.S. DCP, in English, Korean, and Japanese with English subtitles, 94 minutes. Not rated, suggested for 13+.
