The works of master filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul (winner of the Cannes Palm d’Or for Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives) resemble a fever dream, traversing the worlds of the real and the imagined, fusing history, memory, mysticism, and folklore.

In Cemetery of Splendor, soldiers with a mysterious sleeping sickness are transported to an impoverished rural hospital. Volunteer Jenjira tends to Itt, a handsome soldier with no family. She enlists a medium to help decipher Itt’s notebook, which may reveal the source of his restless slumber while the doctors try light therapy to calm his dreams. It may take more than traditional medicine and psychic healing to bring Itt from his hibernation. 2015, Thailand, DCP, in Thai with English subtitles.

Saturday, June 11th and Sunday, June 12th
Athina Rachel Tsangari (director of Attenberg) returns with a dark comedy skewering the male obsession with competition. While on a fishing trip on a luxury yacht in the Aegean Sea, six men embark on a game to which the victor will receive a victory right: the Chevalier. These alpha males develop a dangerous and hilarious series of games to determine who will gain and lose points (perfecting underwater somersault, +22 points; ponytail, -35 points; staring at the sea with one hand on waist, +3 points).

As the games become more complicated the rivalry intensifies, leading to comic and absurd situations that test contemporary interpretations of masculinity. 2015, Greece, DCP, in Greek with English subtitles.

Tickets are $7 for Members and $9 for Non-Members.
