Jefferson County Chapter of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth says
In connection with Louisville's annual Give-A-Day week of service, KFTC and several non-profit organizations and churches in the historic Smoketown neighborhood are facilitating, "Smoketown Rising Week of Service," a week of service opportunities, skill shares, and community gatherings to celebrate the neighborhood's 150th anniversary. The events run from April 17 to 26, 2015. For more information about the Smoketown Rising Week of Service events visit http://www.steamexchange.org/2212559-give-a-day

During this week, KFTC will launch Walk Your Block, a walkability study in the Smoketown community. The study is focused on assessing the infrastructure, sidewalks conditions, and vacant and abandoned properties in the neighborhood. KFTC hopes to use the results of this study to work with neighbors, community partners, and city officials to improve accessibility, safety, and housing conditions in Smoketown. This is a continuation of the chapter's Vision Smoketown work, which started in 2013 (visit kftc.org/visionsmoketown for more info)

KFTC needs volunteers to help conduct the Walk Your Block walkability study. Training, support, and materials will be provided. No experience necessary. Volunteers under age 18 need adult supervision. You can sign up for one day or all three days of the study. To sign up to volunteer visit http://www.mygiveaday.com/ or contact us at 502-589-3188 or alicia@kftc.org.
