The event creator says
The Distinguished Alumni Gala, while being one of the Memphis’ newest social events, will certainly be one of the premier social gatherings of 2015. This event hosted by Memphis Central (THE) High School Class of 1980 will truly be “A Party with a Purpose!”

The purpose, during this inaugural celebration, is to introduce the public to the school’s newly established Distinguished Alumni Award. This award will be presented annually to both a deserving faculty member and a former student of Memphis Central High. The 2015 honorees are faculty member, Mrs. Florence H. Leffler {former Principal (first woman to hold such position) , Thespian, Memphis City Councilwoman and Philanthropist} and student from the Class of 1949, Dr. Louis G. Britt {Medical Educator, Surgeon, “Father” of Memphis’ organ transplant community (performed the first human kidney transplant in Memphis} and Founder of Mid-South Transplant Foundation. The proceeds from this gala will be used to establish an endowment fund to benefit Memphis Central High School’s Performing Arts Department.
