Cooper Young Historic District says
It is Rocktober in the Cooper Young Historic District! In October, join us for a whirlwind showcase of some of the top local musicians in the area. Sixteen different solos, duos and groups will play at the intersection of Cooper and Young at the Gazebo each Monday through Thursday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for four weeks.

Starting October 5, Tony Manard, a life-long Memphian will entertain us with his folky with a twang and a side of blues music. A quick right hand and a lyrical middle finger for “the man”, the songs feature marginal and marginalized characters from history and the imagination. He released his first collection of original songs “Nothing I want to Talk About” in November of 2014 and is working on a follow-up expected fall of 2015.

Rocktober’s music menu is rock n roll, blues, soul, country, rockabilly and garage rock with a little Creole thrown on top. Other musicians and groups to follow are:

October 6 – Davy Ray Bennett
October 7 – Nora & Chuck Retroactive
October 8 – Subtractions
October 12 – Switchblade Kid
October 13 – Marcella Simien
October 14 – Cherry Brooks and Cal Jackson
