Shangri-La Records says
In 1968 Gimmer Nicholson went into Ardent Studios and recorded one of the most beautiful and yet largely unknown albums in Memphis music history. Originally engineered by Terry Manning with a limited number of LPs pressed via Sid Selvidge's Peabody label, "Christopher Idylls" blends classical guitar composition with a folk sensibility that would later be cited as a massive influence for artists like Big Star's Chris Bell. A CD with new mixes was released in the 1990s, but is an extreme rarity and it has remained a collector's dream since.

Light in the Attic Records is now reissuing the album, remastered from the original tapes, with its beautiful William Eggleston cover art in a gatefold package with fresh liner notes from Andria Lisle. Join us on Monday, March 14, as Terry Manning, Andria Lisle and Steve Selvidge gather up at Shangri-La to discuss Gimmer, the album, its enduring influence and reissue. We'll have plenty of the LP on hand and will be spinning it before and after for those who have never heard it before.
