UPDATE: Get there promptly at 10am so you don't miss The Mighty Souls Brass Band playing for the Greensward! They'll be leading a second-line to honor the 27 dearly departed trees, so bring your best umbrellas and dancing shoes!

---

Early this week, the Memphis Zoo illegally removed 27 trees from the Overton Park Greensward and stated their intention to remove more trees to make space for parking cars.

We are sick of seeing our public parkland used as a parking lot and profit center by the Memphis Zoo. We want to encourage the new City Council and Mayor Strickland to do the right thing for Overton Park: Ban Greensward parking forever!

Please join your friends and neighbors for a ceremonial tree-planting on the Greensward this Saturday, January 16, at 10am. Meet near the Doughboy statue at Veterans Plaza.

Help us remind zoo leaders that Overton Park does not belong to them. It belongs to the citizens of Memphis, and we are taking it back.
